I’m Finley, and I’m from Austin, Texas. I’m 16, and I’m on a competitive swim team. In my free time in Texas, I go to (American) football games with my family and hang out with my friends often.
I was first introduced to Pueblo Ingles by a friend, and my family was instantly intrigued by it. After hearing about how many friends she still kept up with and all the fun they had at camp, I decided I wanted to do the camp that summer. On the first day in Alberca, there was almost an instant connection between all of the anglos and Spaniards. The counselors and staff were very friendly and helpful. Every morning, a group of campers would wake up early to watch the sunrise before everyone else woke up. It was so pretty and one of my favorite parts of camp. I got to learn about some different cultures through dance, sports, and food, by incorporating things from each nationality in the camp. I learned what Gaelic football was, and I tried salsa dancing during the nighttime activities. By the end of camp, I had formed such strong friendships with people, I didn’t want to leave. The language and culture barrier was in the past, and we all had so much fun on those final days.
When I got back to Austin, I told all my friends about what an experience I’d had and that they should come back with me the next summer and meet my friends from around the world.
