In 2013 I went to Spain to volunteer for Pueblo Inglés. This experience was for me one of the highlights of my many overseas travels, work and volunteering. For participants and volunteers, Pueblo Inglés is an amazing cultural and language experience. I would say, this is how language should be taught, through conversations, play, fun, excitement in an informal setting with lots of crazy activities with a coordinator who gets everyone active and involved, no matter what age, agility, background or anything else.
I am originally from The Netherlands, but after my first degree immigrated to Canada where I held a variety of positions in Post-Secondary Education. During the last 10 years, I worked overseas as a teacher, team lead and volunteer for interesting projects in Thailand, Ghana, Namibia, Mozambique, Spain and Kazakhstan.
The experience in Spain, has motivated me to learn another language and keeps me motivated to travel the world in numerous ways; by foot, by bike, by plane, in a car or whatever mode of transportation. I may need to get around. It is the people I meet who share their views and knowledge and who make me realize how much I still have to learn.
Cheers and thanks to Pueblo Inglés.
