My name is Zane and I am a 10th-grade student at Austin High School. In my free time, I enjoy rowing with my team at the Texas Rowing Center on Lady Bird Lake in Austin, Texas. Rowing has become a big part of my life, and I am proud of what I have accomplished so far. I have won several medals, including gold at the State Championship in Waco and first place at Regionals. One of my biggest opportunities was competing in the Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston, which is the largest regatta in the world. I also had the opportunity to represent my club at Youth Nationals in Sarasota, Florida, where my boat earned 10th place.
Outside of rowing, I like to play video games, especially competitive and adventure games. These games help me relax after long days of school or practice, while also sharpening my problem-solving and strategic thinking skills. I enjoy the challenge and focus that games require, and they are a great way for me to unwind and have fun.
During the summer, my family and I enjoy traveling to different countries. I love experiencing new cultures, trying unique foods, and visiting famous landmarks. One of the most memorable trips I have ever taken was a week-long camp in Salamanca, Spain called Pueblo Ingles. The week was packed with games, activities, and lots of one-on-one conversations. Over time, we grew to love the routine and the random spontaneity of the days. It is hard to describe in just a few words how amazing that experience was.
While in Salamanca, I had the chance to experience a new culture and language, and I met many teenagers from different countries. I became close friends with boys from Spain, Ireland, and Canada, and we shared unforgettable memories together. That trip taught me the value of friendship, communication, and stepping outside of my comfort zone. No matter where life takes us, I know that we will always remember that special week and the strong connections we made.
